Pleasanton council expands community center fee waiver to nonprofits, churches and firefighters

At the Feb. 2 meeting the Pleasanton City Council approved a revision to the community center fee-waiver policy to include non-profit organizations and churches and to allow the Pleasanton City Firefighters two fee-free uses of the facility annually.
Public commenter David Schuermann requested the change, asking the council to revise the waiver to explicitly cover non-profit organizations and churches. City Administrator/Clerk Becky Hegwald also asked that the firefighters be allowed to use the community center without paying twice per year. Councilmember Stark moved to adopt the revision; Haynes seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
City staff noted that security deposits will still be required for all users despite the fee waiver. The revision alters who pays usage fees but keeps deposit protections in place to cover potential damages or additional cleanup costs.
The council did not specify an effective date for the policy change during the meeting; implementation details and any scheduling process were left to city staff.
