Moore Haven, Fla. — At its July 31 budget workshop, the Moore Haven City Council reviewed recurring community donations and small sponsorships while discussing capital priorities for City Hall and shifting operating funds to maintenance.
Vice Mayor Jacob Eighner proposed preserving longstanding donations — including the Bass Tournament, EDC support, FBLA and Wreaths Across America — while keeping a roughly $3,500 miscellaneous fund for new school or community requests. "We have always given to the Bass tournament... I don't think we should take it from them," Eighner said, while also suggesting flexibility to assist new initiatives.
City Clerk Ashley Wills asked staff to add a Career Source contact and noted a Toys for Tots request from a community member. Councilmember Alisha Beck urged keeping Wreaths Across America to honor veterans. Wills also recommended shifting funds from office supplies to maintenance to address facility issues such as an aging air conditioner.
Tibbs said contractors have not yet prepared City Hall plans but identified a backup generator as a key priority. The council discussed existing demolition funds that remain available and the possibility of using CaPFA funds for critical equipment and as grant matches for larger projects.
No formal appropriation decisions were made during the workshop; staff were directed to continue planning and to present options in future budget sessions.
