The Port Hueneme Housing Successor Agency voted unanimously on July 20 to authorize the acquisition of real property adjacent to existing successor agency parcels for $600,000 with the aim of developing low‑income housing.
Housing and facilities staff, led by housing director Gabby Basua, described the parcel (roughly 0.68 acres) as the final adjacent lot needed to consolidate agency‑owned properties near the museum and said the site could support an estimated 15–20 sub‑low (very low) income units using density bonuses. Staff emphasized the purchase would be funded with Housing Successor Agency restricted funds that can only be used for housing purposes, not the city’s general fund.
Councilors asked about conceptual density and proximity to the museum; Basua said the proposal is currently conceptual and will return to council with development details and required entitlements. The board authorized the appropriation and granted staff authority to execute documents necessary to complete the acquisition; the motion passed on a unanimous roll call.
Next steps include staff‑led site evaluation, development concept work and return to council for entitlement decisions and design approvals.
