Moore Haven council approves bills, donates $500 to Toys for Tots and clarifies garbage-can fees

The Moore Haven City Council on Oct. 1 approved routine financial and community items, discussed municipal reporting and meeting schedules, and clarified fees for the new garbage-can program.
The council voted to approve bills totaling $72,955.86 after a motion moved by Alisha Beck and seconded by Rashonda Croskey. Council members also approved a $500 donation to Toys for Tots; the donation was moved by Beck and seconded by Marcus "Marc" Decker and the motion carried.
Mayor Wayne Browning asked staff to reinstate pre-meeting operational reports and quarterly reports; City Manager Larry Tibbs and Public Works Superintendent Brad Simmons were asked to provide regular updates. Tibbs also reported statewide storm-related electric outages were dropping and municipal outages were down to a smaller number, reflecting ongoing recovery from a recent storm.
Council members discussed whether to change the regular meeting start time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tibbs said the meeting start time is not fixed by charter or ordinance and could be changed; council took the discussion under advisement but did not adopt a new start time.
On solid-waste service, Clerk Ashley Wills said extra pickups require a work order and are charged at operating cost. She said an additional trash can carries a $75 one-time rental charge and requires payment for a second weekly service at $29.93 per month.
City Attorney Steve Ramunni told the council he would place a replacement appointment for the Tourism Development Council (TDC) and Economic Development Council (EDC) — previously held by Jacob Eighner — on a future agenda and noted a Code Enforcement hearing set for Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. concerning local properties.
The meeting concluded at 8:00 p.m. after Council member Bradley Smith moved to adjourn and Rashonda Croskey seconded.
