Board approves demolition order for 433 Sheldon Street

The board voted to approve a condemnation and demolition order for 433 Sheldon Street after code officers reported no permits and said the structure is not feasible to rehabilitate.
Jason Yates, code compliance officer filling in for the supervisor, told the board the order of condemnation and notice of hearing were mailed and posted and that a permit check showed no applications had been filed. Building official Steve Woodworth said the department had had no recent contact with the owner and that nothing had changed at the property. “The city would like to move forward with condemnation and demolition of this property per your order,” Woodworth said.
Staff and the building official explained the owner retains the opportunity to seek a stay or come forward with repairs but, given the condition Woodworth described, that appeared unlikely. Woodworth said the home’s condition made reconditioning or rehabilitation “really not possible.” No one representing the property appeared at the hearing.
A board member moved to accept staff’s recommendation to proceed with formal condemnation and demolition; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. The board noted any final order would be posted on the property and that any city demolition would be liened against the parcel per local code.
