A presenter for the board described the request: “The final item on your agenda this evening is a request from the Toys for Tots organization to utilize some CRA property, which is the former SunTrust Bank location at 6128 U.S. Highway 19 for the temporary storage of toys to support their 2024 campaign to provide New Port Richey children, and area children as well with toys for Christmas.” The presenter said the campaign “involves providing 2,000 children in New Port Richey with a good holiday,” and that Toys for Tots asked to work with the recreation department to accept and store items until distribution.
Chair opened the floor for public comment; none came forward. A board member moved and a second was recorded; the board then voted in favor, with the chair announcing the result as “That’s 5 nothing.” Several board members expressed support, noting partnerships with local schools. The approval as recorded did not include conditions or fee waivers beyond the requested facility use noted on the agenda.
