Oxford council approves chip-seal contract, addresses wastewater pump failure

The Oxford City Council on July 14 approved chip-seal work for streets identified by Public Works and discussed recent water and wastewater equipment problems.
Public Works staff reported nine after-hours alarms and said an influent pump at the wastewater plant failed; the city ordered a replacement pump that will serve as a spare in the new plant and is expected to arrive in six to eight weeks. The council was also briefed on a Department of Natural Resources inspection of the water system scheduled for July 14 and on a proposed 10-year exterior cleaning and painting plan for the city water tower. Public Works staff noted that Terry Stockman has completed the final Grade 2 DNR certification required to serve as the city's water and wastewater operator when the current operator retires.
Council reviewed streets that need chip sealing and voted to accept LL Pelling's quotes. "Hennes motioned to approve the Chip Seal quotes through LL Pelling that were presented; Roberts seconded. All ayes," the minutes record. The motion passed without recorded dissent.
The council also asked the city engineer to revise a contract for the Center Street bridge replacement to address where storm water is affecting the sidewalk.
The replacement pump is expected to arrive in six to eight weeks, and staff said the new pump will be held as a spare in the new plant. The city will proceed with the chip-seal work now that the contract has been approved.
