Resident presses commission on West Side stormwater funding; manager says $1 million secured

A member of the public told the City Commission on April 28 that stormwater and dredging needs on the historic West Side warrant closer review before the commission approves related budget adjustments.
"We do not see some concerns that we have for the West Side," Patricia Blake Harris told the commission, asking officials to review the general fund and stormwater capital project funds and consider postponing approval of resolution 0826 until questions are addressed.
City Manager (Mr. Cowper) responded that the agenda item before the commission was a series of budget adjustments and that staff had identified a stormwater project for the West Side. "We have secured 1000000 dollars from the state, to go toward that project. It's a multimillion dollar project," he said, and added that staff planned to pursue Community Development Block Grant funds from Volusia County to supplement the state allocation.
The manager noted the county's CDBG grant period opens in May and said staff consider the West Side project a high priority. Commissioners and staff indicated they would provide additional information to the concerned resident and address the item later in the meeting and in upcoming materials.
