Anamosa council approves first reading of fence ordinance, OKs equipment purchases and payments

The Anamosa City Council on Feb. 10, 2025, unanimously approved the first reading of Ordinance 965, which would amend Chapter 165.23(3) of the Anamosa Code of Ordinances governing fences, and voted to authorize several municipal purchases and pay requests at a regular session held at the Anamosa Library & Learning Center.
Mayor Rod Smith presided over the meeting. Council Member Kay Smith moved to approve the consent agenda (minutes of Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 and current bills); Council Member Teresa Tuetken seconded the motion, and the roll call vote was unanimous (K. Smith, Tuetken, Weimer, D. Smith, Crump voting aye). The council then opened a public hearing on Ordinance 965 at 6:03 P.M.; there was no public comment and the hearing was closed at 6:04 P.M.
Council Member Rich Crump moved, and Council Member Todd Weimer seconded, to approve the first reading of Ordinance 965 ("Amending the Anamosa Code of Ordinances, Chapter 165.23(3), Supplementary District Regulations, Fences"). The motion carried on a unanimous roll call vote (Tuetken, Weimer, D. Smith, Crump, K. Smith voting aye).
On departmental purchases, Council Member Dan Smith moved, seconded by Todd Weimer, to approve a Public Utilities Department purchase of a spectrophotometer for $6,646.20 plus shipping; the motion passed unanimously. The council also approved two Parks & Recreation purchases tied to the Iowa Health and Human Services 5-2-1-0 Project: a bags game set for WapsiAna Park for $2,654.00 (motion by Kay Smith; second by Rich Crump) and a weight rack for $7,375.00 (motion by Rich Crump; second by Kay Smith). Both park purchases passed on unanimous roll calls.
Finally, the council approved consent agenda pay requests totaling $96,787.68 (motion by Dan Smith, second by Rich Crump; unanimous roll call). Council Member Brooke Gombert was listed as absent for the meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M. The first reading of Ordinance 965 was approved; the transcript does not record a scheduled date for a second reading or final adoption.
