Noma, Fla. — The Noma Town Council on Dec. 1 unanimously appointed Michael Hernandez to the council’s vacant Seat 4 after he stepped down from his role as the town’s volunteer fire chief.
The Town Clerk reviewed the vacancy left after Coy Mixon’s resignation or removal. Michael Hernandez said he was interested in the council appointment and "formally stated his resignation from the position of Noma Volunteer Fire Chief," after which council members voted to appoint him to Seat 4. Daniel Arrant moved to appoint Hernandez; Betty Forthman seconded and the motion passed with all in favor.
Council also addressed fire-department leadership. After Hernandez’s resignation as chief, Daniel Arrant moved to appoint Zachary Flowers as Noma Volunteer Fire Department Chief; Betty Forthman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The meeting also resolved a personnel matter in the maintenance department. The council reviewed Christopher Jones’s employment status. Daniel Arrant and others spoke in support of Jones’s performance; because Betty Forthman recused herself from that item due to a family relationship, she did not vote. The council voted to make Christopher Jones a permanent employee and to increase his hourly pay to $17.50, with Michael Hernandez and Mayor Litermin Joseph recorded as supporting the motion.
The council concluded the personnel votes with routine procedural confirmation of the motions ("All in favor. Motion carried."). The appointments take effect immediately; no additional conditions or effective dates were specified.
