City Council approved the City of New Port Richey'—s 2024 Disaster Preparedness Guide after a staff presentation describing the guide'—s scope and statutory basis.
Chief (speaker 1) told the council the guide provides uniform procedures to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate natural or man-made disasters. The guide includes hazard analyses, geographic and surge-elevation mapping, department operational plans to coordinate interdepartmental responses, and current contact information for staff and elected officials who would play roles in emergency management. Staff said Florida statute allows municipalities to adopt emergency-disaster plans and requires coordination with Pasco County Emergency Management.
Council members asked whether local dispatch would remain and whether the city could produce a simplified resident-facing page or "one-stop shop" linked from the city website; staff said the Pasco County emergency/disaster guide is already linked on the city's emergency management web page and that staff can prepare a resident-oriented summary and website link during emergencies. Council approved the staff recommendation to adopt the guide (motion, second, voice vote).
Staff said the city updates the guide annually and will return with any operational clarifications requested by council.
