Commission hears master-plan next steps; staff updates on site-plan compliance and stormwater work

Staff told the Planning Commission on July 21 that the master-plan update process has completed its primary data-collection and public-input phase and that consultants will analyze feedback, surveys and market data over the summer and produce draft updates for review through the fall.

Eric Peach said the open-house turnout was successful and staff will "take all of the feedback" and begin drafting updates to sections of the plan; consultants plan to iterate with the commission through August–October toward final approval and adoption.

In other business, staff provided an update on a required separating wall at a nearby plaza that had been the subject of earlier concern. Planning staff said the property owner submitted architect-stamped plans in time to preserve the site's approval; the owner now has roughly 60 days to construct the wall before staff will consider enforcement action or site-plan revocation.

Commissioners also discussed a possible retiming of the commission’s meeting schedule so that decisions could reach city council more quickly, shortening the approval cycle for time-sensitive projects. A resident and commenter urged the commission to consider moving meeting dates so approvals could be handled faster by council when needed.

A commissioner reported ongoing research into rainwater and stormwater management solutions and asked staff to identify relevant ordinance sections and feasible, scaled options appropriate for Lathrup Village. Staff and commissioners agreed to coordinate further research and follow-up reports.

The commission adjourned after the listed business; no new ordinance votes occurred at the July 21 meeting.
