The City of Indian Hills council agreed on May 21 to remove the mayor’s and councilors’ email addresses from the city website and the newsletter after the mayor reported receiving bogus emails appearing to come from official addresses.
Mayor Chip Hancock said the council and city staff have been receiving bogus emails that appear to originate from city accounts and asked Police Chief Kelly Spratt for his recommendation. Chief Spratt recommended removing the mayor’s and council email addresses from the website and retaining only the city clerk’s email address and the website’s contact form to receive resident inquiries.
Councilors expressed general agreement with the recommendation at the meeting and instructed staff to proceed with the change. The council did not adopt a formal ordinance or vote for this administrative change during the meeting; it reached consensus during discussion.
Chief Spratt also presented radar sign data on a separate agenda item; he will provide that data to concerned residents.
