Yarmouth accepts $31,000 Last Call Foundation grant to complete regional fire training building

The Select Board voted July 21 to accept a $31,000 grant from the Last Call Foundation to help complete specialized training props for a regional fire training building.
Fire Chief Enrique Rasque described the training building as a multiyear regional effort that dates to a 2018 grant and said the new funding will help the project "get across the finish line" by covering gas‑fired burn props and other last‑mile equipment costs.
Deputy Chief Chris McMahon said the county and other partners had contributed but that rising costs required an extra funding buffer. "That allowed us some wiggle room to push through the hiccups and finish the project," McMahon said.
Lieutenant Jason Burns, executive director of the Last Call Foundation, outlined the foundation’s mission to improve firefighter safety and equipment, noting projects such as higher‑heat‑resistant hoses and burn props. "I want firefighters to get home to their families at the end of their tour," Burns said.
The board accepted the donation unanimously and thanked the foundation and the department for the grant work. Officials said the training facility will be available to other local departments and will support safer, more realistic training for Yarmouth firefighters and regional partners.
