Parish leaders urge utilities to inventory storm-damaged wires; AT&T asks residents to report hazards

Parish President Miller told the Tangipahoa Parish Council on Nov. 12 that several old poles and remaining wire debris dating to Hurricane Ida have not been fully cleared despite installation of new poles.
Eric Jones, AT&T regional director of external affairs, described the company's reporting process and asked residents to call 800-288-2020 to report locations of problematic poles and wires. Jones said he would take council concerns about a comprehensive parish-wide inventory back to AT&T corporate.
Council Chairman David Vial urged the telecommunications providers to perform a full inventory of poles and wires across the parish rather than rely solely on individual customer reports. Vial said the council wants the utilities to be proactive in identifying remaining hazards.
Jones's response, as recorded in the minutes, was that he would present the council's request to corporate leaders for consideration. No public speakers addressed this item during the hearing.
