Public safety staff (speaker 6) said Bay County placed the area under a state of emergency and that Mexico Beach will sign a local state of emergency after the council meeting to support recovery and damage documentation. The city conducted a wind windshield assessment and will follow with building-inspection visits coordinated with ECPI inspectors to capture secondary assessment details.
Officials said three people were transported for treatment after the event and none suffered major injuries. Utilities restoration proceeded quickly, with Duke Energy restoring power by midafternoon, and mutual aid arrived from neighboring jurisdictions to support lift stations and other infrastructure. Staff emphasized careful documentation — photographs and reported damage — to support insurance and reimbursement processes.
Public safety staff warned residents about predatory contractors and urged homeowners not to sign agreements immediately, to get multiple quotes and to contact City Hall or the fire department for assistance. Council members thanked public works and emergency personnel for rapid response and noted staff will pursue reimbursement via insurance and grants where applicable.
