Council hears $500,000 paving proposal for 15th Street after bridge inspection flags

Public works director Mark told the council that FDOT bridge inspections and years of deferred maintenance point to significant street repairs ahead, with 15th Street singled out as a major candidate for repaving.
Mark said inspection reports recommend signage, guardrail and approach work on bridges and that 15th Street shows stress fractures and shoulder loss that will not be solved by piecemeal patching. "If you go look at, like, closer to the Gulf County line, look at some of the edges, there's no shoulders left," Mark said.
Staff presented a preliminary planning figure and discussed a proposed $500,000 capital improvement budget request to repave the most critical sections; Mark and other staff said they will secure vendor quotes next week and recommend a procurement approach. Council members urged prudence — noting the funds are budgeted but that projects should be prioritized and not rushed simply because money is available.
Council directed staff to compile the bridge inspection reports, provide cost estimates and return with a prioritized list of paving projects and procurement recommendations for council consideration.
