After receiving earlier bids that came in much higher than expected, the Mexico Beach City Council voted to accept a two‑phase mixer-plus‑blower aeration system proposal (recommended by Cyber Electric) for the municipal water tank.
Emily Thomas reviewed the alternative approach after a previous aeration bid returned at about $284,655. She said the Cyber Electric system—a mixer installed inside the tank and an optional blower on top—was installed successfully in a nearby jurisdiction and that the vendor’s combined price for mixer and blower totaled about $54,671. The city had budgeted $75,000 for the project.
A council member recommended buying the optional extended warranty; the council approved the task order for both phases and added the five‑year warranty option for an additional ~$1,480. Staff said the phase‑two blower is necessary for the mixer system to achieve the intended reduction in disinfection byproducts, consistent with the Indiantown example cited by staff.
Staff will proceed with procurement and implementation per the approved task order.
