The Transportation Infrastructure Committee voted to defer a resolution urging the Nashville Department of Transportation and multimodal infrastructure (NDOT) and the mayor’s office to renew and accelerate Vision 0 pedestrian-safety initiatives until Sept. 15. Council member Koopin, sponsor of RS20262064, asked for the deferral so NDOT could fill a Vision 0 program-manager position and complete its director search and then offer more concrete dates and plans.
Koopin told the committee NDOT has an RFP out for a Vision 0 program manager and said staff expect to have more clarity by mid-September; she moved to defer the resolution to Sept. 15. Other members supported the deferral while urging NDOT to move quickly. One council member pointed to earlier engineering changes in District 7 that eliminated pedestrian fatalities at two intersections as examples of relatively swift, effective fixes and stressed the need for timely action even during the deferral.
Committee members did not enact code or funding changes at the meeting; the committee’s action was a procedural deferral to allow NDOT additional time to staff and respond to the resolution’s requests.
