The Pittsboro Town Council voted Tuesday to authorize up to $2,185,000 in general‑obligation bonds to reimburse and finance police‑department equipment, improvements to the town’s police station, parks department capital improvements and related issuance costs.
Council Chair (speaker 1) opened a public hearing on ordinance 2026‑08 and described the measure as a financing vehicle to “provide funds to pay for infrastructure improvements, the acquisition of certain equipment for the town, and incidental expenses in connection therewith,” with an “original principal amount not to exceed $2,185,000.” The council then heard one public question about the funding source.
“I just, that's my question — where's the money coming from?” asked Linda Thompson, who came forward during public comment. Council members explained the bonds are tax‑based debt service paid from the property‑tax levy rather than the town’s general fund.
After closing the hearing, the council adopted ordinance 2026‑08 and immediately passed resolution 2026‑14, which formally appropriates the bond proceeds for the police and parks projects described in the ordinance. Both measures passed by voice vote, recorded as 4‑0 in favor.
The council did not detail a construction schedule or assign specific project timelines during the meeting; council leaders said further implementation steps and reporting requirements will follow in work sessions and staff updates.
