Maple Grove swears in two officers and new K-9 Gus

The Maple Grove City Council on June 15 held oath ceremonies for two newly sworn police officers and introduced a newly assigned police K-9.
Police Chief Werner summarized Officer Kristopher Mann’s hiring history (joined Oct. 6, 2025), noted his completion of the department field training program and solo patrol assignment on Feb. 7, 2026, and mentioned his associate’s degree in criminal justice and prior service as a community service officer. Mayor Mark Steffenson administered the oath to Officer Mann.
Chief Werner also presented Officer Fredrick Majanga, who began employment Jan. 27, 2026, completed field training and was assigned to solo patrol on May 29, 2026; he holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior and human resources and previously served as a Dallas Metro Police Officer. Mayor Steffenson administered the oath and pinned Officer Majanga’s badge.
The council also heard an introduction of K-9 Gus and handler Officer Zach Hanson. Chief Werner said Gus (born Jan. 18, 2025, in Hungary) and Officer Hanson attended the Saint Paul Canine Police Academy and obtained two certifications from the United States Canine Association: patrol certification for apprehension, article searches and building searches, and a narcotics detection certification. Mayor Steffenson administered the K-9 oath. The council and attendees offered rounds of applause for each new officer and the K-9 team.
