City officials told the Sedan City Council on Feb. 17 that the city will receive a net insurance payment of $6,191.37 toward City Hall roof repairs after depreciation and a $5,000 deductible.
City Clerk Lana Smith said the adjuster and Ram’s Roofing identified $11,190.37 in depreciation; applying the deductible leaves $6,191.37 to the city.
Public Works Superintendent Caleb Ironsyde reported that the municipal pool has "about a 10-foot rip" in the liner and that the foundation around the pool is sinking. Ironsyde said the city may not be able to open the pool this year and recommended bringing in a pool specialist and exploring grant options to fund repairs. The council discussed having an engineer inspect the pool to determine repair needs.
On other operational items, the council set the citywide clean-up weekend for May 16, 2026; City Clerk Lana Smith will check with Waste Connections about obtaining two 40-yard roll-off containers and pricing. Wellington Butler moved to approve GAAP Waiver Resolution 26-01; Adam Clark seconded and the council approved the resolution unanimously. The council also approved purchasing Toyo tires from Main Street Auto at $298.95 per tire to replace a blown tire on a work truck; the motion carried 4-0.
City Treasurer Raven Darnall presented the January financial review. Council members asked that the budget process reflect the likely need for a new pool in coming years and discussed charging expenditures to the trash fund where appropriate. City Clerk Lana Smith clarified billing items from Emert Chubb for prosecutor services, contract review, and alley-vacation work.
The council adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
