Sedan mayor resigns; Kathy Miller sworn in and council picks new president

The Sedan City Council accepted the resignation of Mayor Bryan Blankinship and sworn-in Kathy Miller as mayor during its Feb. 17 meeting.
Council President Kathy Miller read Mayor Bryan Blankinship’s letter of resignation, and Angela Evans moved to accept it; Wellington Butler seconded. The motion carried 4-0 (0 Nay, 4 Yay). City Clerk Lana Smith then administered the oath of office to Kathy Miller.
After the swearing-in, Mayor Kathy Miller said she would like Adam Clark named president of the council; Crystal Wade moved the nomination and Angela Evans seconded. The council approved Adam Clark as president by a 4-0 vote. Other routine motions that evening — including approving the amended agenda and approving the consent agenda — also passed unanimously.
During public comment, Pam Koerner apologized for walking out of the prior meeting and urged the council to be civil. "I had watched all I could with the elected council members treating each other with disrespect," she said.
The council completed its other agenda items and adjourned at 6:27 p.m.
