Sedan council reviews MOUs, petitions and administrative updates; SOPs motion fails

During general administrative items on Feb. 3, 2026, the Sedan City Council asked the city clerk to prepare a questionnaire for boards that the city wants to have MOUs with.
City Clerk Lana Smith presented a list of boards for which the city is seeking memoranda of understanding. The council directed the clerk to create and distribute a questionnaire to board members to collect needed information for drafting MOUs.
City staff provided brief updates: the petition to vacate an alley has been mailed and the process will begin when it is returned; Public Works Superintendent Caleb Ironsyde reported that several work trucks will need tires soon and the council advised the department to get bids from both local companies. Police Chief Kirk Richardson updated the council on oversized loads traveling on Main Street.
Wellington Butler made a motion to develop standard operating procedures for the city and sought a volunteer from the council; the motion died for lack of a second. Council comments also included thanks to crews for snow removal and administrative requests such as correcting the spelling of the minutes and providing a list of board members.
