Snake River trustees approve policy updates, adopt online-school calendars and shift Spring Break

By unanimous vote the board adopted second readings of multiple policies, including Policy 2605 (Advancement Requirements for grades 6–9, updated to align with IDAPA mathematics requirements), Policy 3380P (extracurricular academic eligibility), Policy 5740 and 5740P (Reduction in Force and procedures), Policy 7225 (Financial Fraud and Theft Prevention), Policy 7235 (Fiscal Accountability and Federal Grant Funds), Policy 7237 (Retention of Records Relating to Federal Grants), Policy 7270 (Property Records), Policy 7320 and 7320P (Allowable Uses for Grant Funds and selected items of cost), and Policy 7600 and 7600P (Declaration of Financial Emergency and related procedures). Minutes note some updates are required items, others are recommended or optional; several edits emphasize clarity, federal grant reporting, record retention for electronic records and internal controls for financial fraud prevention.
Trustee Larin Mortimer moved to approve the second readings and Trustee Josh Sorensen seconded; the motion passed 5-0. The board then tabled the remainder of first readings and policy reviews to next month on a separate 5-0 motion.
The board also approved 2026–27 calendars for Snake River Online K-8 and Snake River Opportunities High School after administrators confirmed instructional hours and negotiated-agreement compliance. Trustee Josh Sorensen moved to approve the online calendars and Trustee Carol Hepworth seconded; motion passed 5-0.
On calendar adjustments, after hearing audience preference for an earlier Spring Break, the board approved setting Spring Break for March 30–April 2, 2026, provided there are no school closures before March 26. Trustee Carol Hepworth moved the change and Trustee Larin Mortimer seconded; motion passed unanimously.
Principal Sydnee Hale also gave a brief middle-school report noting hallway repainting, a library reading incentive, new STEM activities (led by Marcy Bradley) and robust participation in music programs. The board set its next meeting for March 18, 2026, at Riverside Elementary.
