Snake River Board re-elects officers, extends superintendent contract and approves routine items

At its Jan. 22 annual meeting the Snake River School Board re-elected Lon Harrington as chairman, authorized committee and treasurer appointments, unanimously extended Superintendent Mark Kress’s contract through 2027–28, and approved policies and consent agenda items.
The Snake River School District Board of Trustees convened its annual organizational meeting on Jan. 22, 2026, at the Snake River Community Library and re-elected Lon Harrington as chairman. The board also reappointed Josh Sorensen as vice‑chairman and Toni Ibarra as treasurer, and approved Terisa Coombs to continue as board clerk and custodian of records.
Superintendent Mark Kress opened nominations and the motions to elect officers carried 5–0. The board approved a slate of deputy and assistant treasurers and each board member signed the district’s Code of Ethics as part of the reorganization.
The board voted, also by unanimous 5–0 counts, to approve routine business including the consent agenda (minutes of Dec. 17, 2025; listed resignations and new hires; the budget report, payroll and claims payable for December 2025; reconciliation reports; and a review of district credit card users). District leadership reviewed the fourth‑quarter investment statement and noted a 12‑month certificate of deposit maturing in March 2026; the board approved the investment statements and directed staff to present CD renewal options at the February meeting.
Committee assignments were read by the superintendent and approved: Carol Hepworth will represent the board on the Snake River Education Foundation; Toni Ibarra on the Activities Foundation; Lon Harrington on the School/Community Library; and other committee roles were assigned for budget, insurance, negotiations, and ISBA representation. The board confirmed Mark Kress and Harmony Shuler as Title VII coordinators and Robert Coombs and Mark Kress as Title IX coordinators.
After a closed session to review the superintendent’s evaluation and discuss an acquisition of real property, the board approved a motion by Josh Sorensen, seconded by Larin Mortimer, to extend Superintendent Mark Kress’s contract through the 2027–2028 school year, with the salary rate to be negotiated in May 2026. The motion passed 5–0.
The board set its regular meeting schedule for the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m., to be held at the district library or posted school sites, and designated official posting locations (District Office, district website, Chad’s Place, and Moreland Post Office). The meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
