Board approves multiple ISBA-recommended policy readings and updates tied to HB 396

The Snake River School Board approved a series of policy updates on Nov. 19, including second readings of Policy 4210F1 (Facility Use and Rental Agreement) and Policy 5110 (Criminal History/Background Checks) and first readings of multiple ISBA-recommended policies.
The first-reading package included Policy 2320 (Health, Sex Education and Human Sexuality) with new language clarifying that instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity must be age-appropriate and meet Idaho Code requirements; Policy 2395 (IDLA classes) and Policy 2470 (Self-Directed Learners) to reflect online and self-directed learning procedures; and procurement updates (Policy 7400 and 7403) that align micro-purchase thresholds and add contract types in line with State Department of Education guidance. The board also reviewed several transportation-related policy changes and new items required by HB 396: Policy 8100 (Transportation), Policy 8103 (Vehicles other than School Buses to Transport Students), Policy 8105 (Extracurricular Transportation) and related procedures and forms including Policy 8110F (Safety Busing Measuring and Scoring Instrument) and Policy 8120 (Bus Routes, Stops, and Non-Transportation Zones).
Board members voted unanimously to approve the readings that were presented. Several trustees noted the updates were recommended by ISBA and largely intended to bring district policy into compliance with state law and best practices.
