Board approves Steadman engineering bid for high school weight room project

Superintendent Mark Kress told the board the district’s highest-ranked engineering firm submitted a proposal that exceeded $300,000, which the board rejected. The district then negotiated with its second-ranked firm, Steadman Construction; Kress described Steadman’s engineering proposal as “approximately $130,000, less than half the original cost,” and the board approved a contract in the amount of $146,856.64.
Kress also summarized early construction cost estimates, saying they appear to be roughly 50–60% of the original firm’s projected $350–$425 per square foot. The board voted unanimously to accept Steadman’s engineering bid on a motion by Josh Sorensen and a second from Larin Mortimer.
The contract covers engineering services including architectural plans and electrical and HVAC design; trustees did not vote on construction contracts at this meeting.
