City Clerk Melissa McDowell told the commission she had received an email from Helen Barker, Caribou County planning and zoning administrator, saying the county is "proposing to extend the Area of Impact south of the city limits."
Commissioners discussed potential benefits and drawbacks of a southward expansion of the Area of Impact, including implications for local zoning and development authority. City Attorney Tom Smith explained the city may provide input but the county has final authority on the proposal.
Chairman Charles Fryar said he would consult with the mayor and the City Council to finalize the city's response and the commission agreed to draft a reply that acknowledges the county's proposal and expresses a willingness to work together on future development.
