Soda Springs council approves FY27 Source Well purchase, discusses parade route and public safety plans

The Soda Springs City Council approved a FY27 procurement and heard several public‑safety and capital updates at its April 1 meeting.

Councilman Ryan Carpenter moved to approve the Source Well purchase price for fiscal year 2027 using Healthy Streets funds; Councilwoman Paige Byram seconded and "all were in favor," the council recorded. Council members also discussed street department capital priorities, balancing a loader lease payment against a potential road grader purchase, and arranged delivery and acceptance timing for the new street sweeper between November and January.

Director Jeff Young said the street sweeper was at a repair vendor; the original compressor for the older model has discontinued parts but a compatible alternative compressor was located and is expected to fit. Young said the goal is to have the sweeper back by the end of next week so streets can be cleaned for the summer season.

Chief CeJay Golightly told the council that winter parking restrictions have ended, the department will participate in an aggressive driving task force grant beginning April 6, and that the Fourth of July parade route will move to Hooper Ave. Mayor Paul Gritton and staff said the Rotary Club will issue a notice that parking is not allowed on the parade route an hour before the event and must be removed immediately after the parade.

No formal vote was recorded on the parade logistics at this meeting; the Source Well procurement motion passed and the meeting concluded with routine administrative items.
