Residents press River Ridge CDD to investigate Pinehurst drainage and retention-pond flooding risk

Residents at the River Ridge Community Development District meeting on July 23 urged the Board to act on persistent drainage problems near the Pinehurst monument and a retention pond between River 8 and River 9.

Resident Shari Perkins told the Board that "a week after the street drains were plugged, the drainage issues persist; water has been overflowing in the triangle monument area," and asked that the two inlet drains at the monument be addressed. Perkins also relayed an email from resident Fred Kronke reporting that a retention pond draining between River 8 and River 9 appears non-functional and that water is ponding nearly 1 foot above the drain.

District Engineer John Baker explained that before the inlet was plugged, water from a separate system had been backing up through the pipe into a lower system; plugging the inlet removed that pushing action but left no place for water to go, creating a small ponding effect in the pipe. Baker said a permanent solution "will likely require additional study" and recommended that residents provide photographs or video of flooding to help staff diagnose the problem. Ms. Perkins agreed to provide video footage to CDD staff.

District Manager Chuck Adams presented an estimate from MRI Construction (Estimate #C060-24) for $10,692.88 to install a Type 9 inlet top intended to keep debris from blocking the structure; staff said another proposal is being obtained and the item will remain on the agenda. The Board directed staff to have the District Engineer view the drainage in person and follow up.

Next steps: residents will provide photos/video to staff; the District Engineer will inspect the site and staff will report back at a future meeting.
