The Okolona City Board approved multiple consent and action items including payment on a CDBG sewer project, building repairs, pay increases and conditional personnel hires.
The board voted to authorize an ESI payment of $41,669.37 to Sunco Infrastructure for the CDBG sewer-improvement project to complete camera and inspection work and identify problem areas for the next phase of repairs. The mayor said the contractor will finish camera work and identify the worst areas so staff can prepare cost estimates and seek to negotiate feasible pricing with Suncoast based on the identified scope.
On facilities, the board reviewed two quotes to replace a failed HVAC unit at the public library. The Hayden (Adrian/Hayden) quote of $6,850 was the lowest; a motion to accept that bid passed by voice vote.
The mayor reported wind damage to the roof of A & M Furniture and said comprehensive insurance on that building had lapsed under the prior administration, leaving only liability coverage. Members asked staff to locate contracts and solicited cost estimates; the board authorized staff to solicit roofing quotes and return with estimates.
Personnel actions included conditional approvals for hires and pay adjustments. The board approved pay increases to $24.64 an hour for Cuevas Jackson and Dalton Webster after completion of required lineman training programs. The board also approved hiring part-time firefighters (Adam Morgan and Seth Kyle) and, following executive session, approved hiring Jasper Cantrell Gardner for the police department at $15/hour and Adam Morgan at $11/hour pending drug tests and other pre-employment conditions. The board set conditions for part-time law-enforcement applicants (e.g., passing PT tests and attendance at academy) and authorized termination if conditions are not met.
Community and civic items included granting permission to place a historical marker on city property near Fannie Carter High School; the board agreed to review any city funding amount at a later date. A representative of Mission Oak Lawn described monthly food distributions and volunteer needs; the board agreed to consider monetary or in-kind support and coalition participation.
The board also voted to authorize the city attorney to enter an appearance for the city in pending litigation captioned in discussion as Heath v. City of Oklahoma; the motion passed by voice vote.
No contentious roll-call votes were recorded on these items in the transcript; most approvals were by voice consensus with motions and seconds noted on the record.
