Council approves application for state grant to build pavilion at Evergreen Park

The Myrtle Creek City Council voted to adopt Resolution 25-02 authorizing staff to apply for an Oregon State Parks Local Government Development Grant to construct a pavilion to cover existing courts at Evergreen Park.
City Recorder Joanna Bilbrey told council the city applied last year and was not selected; the Parks Commission requested reapplying. The project cost estimate, including the pavilion, path improvements and a new fence, is $273,609. If awarded, the grant would provide $218,887 and the city’s match would be $54,722. Bilbrey said she did not personally feel the project currently met all ADA requirements outlined in the grant, and council members discussed possible additions such as lights to extend usable hours.
The motion to adopt Resolution 25-02 passed with Councilors Robert Chaney Sr., Luke Dillon, Diana Larson and Rick Held voting yes; Councilor Cathey Wragg voted no. Staff will proceed with the application and follow grant requirements around accessibility and match funding if selected.
