The Oxford Historic Preservation Commission voted to allow the demolition of an outbuilding at 1413 Fillmore Avenue and approved a proposed new wood-and-metal fence to address site grading.
At the hearing, staff member Kate said the one‑story wood gable outbuilding is not listed as a contributing resource in the city’s inventory and is partially located on an adjacent property; staff recommended approval of demolition and the proposed fencing. Kate also said the applicant is not planning to build a replacement shed.
Homeowner Thomas Fitz identified himself and described the structure’s deteriorated condition, saying water flow from nearby new construction had undermined the building and that contractors had to prop it up after neighbors struck it while removing trees. Fitz said the opening measures about 8 feet and that the original doors have been removed and will be reused on another garage in Oxford.
A motion to approve the demolition passed by voice vote. The commission then considered fencing plans submitted to mitigate fall risks caused by existing site grades and approved the proposed mix of full wood panels and metal picket fencing.
The commission did not attach further conditions to the demolition approval; staff will proceed with the standard permitting process. The public hearing moved on to other agenda items.
