Nominee Lori Wolff tells Senate committee she will prioritize budget transparency and forecasting

Lori Wolff, the governor’s nominee to serve as Administrator of the Division of Financial Management, told the Senate State Affairs Committee on Jan. 20 that she will prioritize structural balance in the state budget, more reliable revenue forecasts and a redesigned public website to improve transparency.

Wolff, who introduced herself to the committee and described 22 years of service in Idaho state government, said the Division oversees preparation of the executive branch budget for roughly 60 agencies and about 25,000 employees. She told senators her management goals include producing accurate revenue numbers, publishing monthly forecasting reports, and reorganizing the Division’s website to make data easier for decision makers and the public to find.

The nominee described her experience across state agencies, including 18 years in Health and Welfare working on foster care, Medicare and SNAP, and later roles in human resources and as senior staff in the governor’s office. During questioning, Senator Ruchti asked whether Wolff understood the Division’s responsibility to taxpayers for oversight of funds used in child-welfare programs; Wolff affirmed that the Division must ensure tax dollars are invested to protect children and to maintain appropriate foster-care backups.
