FGCU committee approves naming Academic Building 10 'Marieb Hall South' after Marieb Foundation gift

The Finance, Facilities and Administration Committee voted April 7 to name the new Academic Building 10 "Marieb Hall South" following a major gift from the Marieb Foundation to support the College of Health and Human Services.
Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the FGCU Foundation Kitty Green said the gift—announced last summer and described as the largest gift FGCU had received at that time—included a naming component. To avoid confusion with the existing Marieb Hall, administration proposed distinguishing the two facilities as Marieb Hall South (the new building) and Marieb Hall North (the existing building). Trustees discussed alternative identifiers but agreed that north/south was clear to students given campus entrances.
Trustee Sandy Stilwell Youngquist moved approval; Trustee Paul Applegarth seconded. There was no public comment and the committee voted unanimously to approve the naming. The recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board for final action on April 14.
