City Manager Bill Reid briefed the council on several administrative items during the March 3 meeting, including facilities, workforce and audit work.
Reid said the city is collecting quotes for audio/video improvements at the Jessie Mays Community Center, with estimates ranging from basic to high-end solutions; staff will return with more information and options. On youth employment, Reid reported that most teen employment programs in peer communities are run by chambers of commerce or nonprofits rather than directly by cities and suggested either a work session or referring the issue to the Economic Development Committee for further consideration; Councilor James Fage will raise the item at the committee.
Reid also said Steve Reimer will facilitate a council retreat on March 16 and that Ashley Driscoll from the city attorney's office will provide training on public meetings and city government basics. On audits, Reid reported the city is finalizing journal entries for FY2022 so that audit can be completed and help facilitate the FY2023 audit, though it is unclear whether the audits will be finished before the budget process.
