The Housing & Zoning Committee on July 22 voted to postpone consideration of a liquor license renewal for one cycle after Chair Jamal Osman said recent violent incidents near the event center required a deeper review.
"Unfortunately, over the weekend we had violent crimes that took place in our city," Osman said, explaining that staff requested the item be pulled so licensing managers could review the incidents and ensure the business is operating responsibly.
Council member Jason Chavez raised analysis cited in recent reporting that 911 calls tied to the club’s address rose markedly; Amy Lingo, manager for licenses and consumer services, told the committee that 911 calls are often attributed to a block or first‑section and that staff must do a deeper dive to determine which calls are directly related to the business.
Council member Schaeffer and other members supported the delay as a safety‑focused, investigatory step. The committee voted to delay the renewal for one cycle while staff investigates and confers with the property owner and licensing managers.
The postponement does not by itself revoke a license; staff said further conversations and analysis will determine whether additional action is warranted.
