FGCU approves 57 faculty promotions and new M.S.N. in Nursing Leadership and Management

At its June 9 meeting the Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees approved faculty promotions and a new graduate nursing degree.
Provost Debbie Thorne reported that 57 faculty members were promoted this cycle after a peer-review process; trustees noted the promotions and plan to honor faculty at a January 2027 luncheon.
The Board also approved a new Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) in Nursing Leadership and Management. Provost Thorne said the program would rely on existing courses and resources, keeping projected start-up expenses under $100,000, and would serve as a direct pipeline to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.). Trustee Joseph Fogg moved approval and Trustee Paul Applegarth seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The Academic/Student/Faculty Affairs committee also noted the School of Resort and Hospitality Management would not pursue secondary ACPHA accreditation and approved minor general-education course adjustments for 2027-28.
Next steps: Administration will implement the M.S.N. program subject to standard curricular approvals and report on enrollments and fiscal impact as the program launches.
