FGCU committee approves new Master of Science in Nursing in leadership and management

The Academic/Student/Faculty Affairs Committee of the Florida Gulf Coast University Board of Trustees voted unanimously June 2 to approve a new Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) in Nursing Leadership & Management.
Provost Debbie Thorne told the committee the proposal was driven by input from healthcare partners and regional labor-market assessments showing demand for nurses prepared for leadership and management roles. She said the program would rely on existing resources and courses and estimated the additional funds needed in the first year at approximately $97,000, supported initially by State grant programs called PIPELINE and LINE.
"The new M.S.N. program is intended to prepare professionals to lead and manage complex healthcare environments," Thorne said, noting the university had coordinated with regional partners in developing the curriculum.
Trustee Joseph Fogg moved to approve the degree proposal; Trustee Robert Krampen seconded. There was no public comment and the committee approved the proposal by unanimous voice vote. Chair Robbie Roepstorff said the committee will recommend the item to the full Board for final action at the June 9 meeting.
If approved by the full Board, the program will proceed using existing course offerings and the grant support identified by the university; implementation details and timelines were not specified in the committee record.
