City administrator outlines engagement sessions, mural planning and preliminary $300,000 bridge estimate

City Administrator Lonnie Rainville told the Myrtle Creek City Council on March 4 that the second series of Imagine Myrtle Creek listening sessions begins the following day. He said attendance at earlier sessions has been small but that ideas gathered so far — including better advertising of community events, creating an anchor to draw people to events and the need for lodging — have been beneficial.
Rainville reviewed work on council goals. On Goal #7 (downtown murals) he said he had been reaching out to other cities about mural programs and suggested there may be a need for a mural committee. On Goal #4 (Evergreen Bridge) Rainville said preliminary numbers for a pedestrian bridge linking Riverside Drive and Evergreen Park are roughly $300,000 and that he will ask Dyer Partnership for engineering cost estimates.
Rainville also said the Small Cities Allotment grant has been released and that he will be applying for Madrona this year. Councilor comments after the report included community event updates and a question from Councilor Diana Larson about research into a vacant building tax. Mayor Matthew Hald said he and Chief Brewster were guest speakers at a Winston City Council meeting to share Myrtle Creek's experience with a dispensary.
