Votes at a glance: Oxford aldermen approve transit contract extension, multiple plats, safety measures and road closure

Oxford’s mayor and board of aldermen approved a broad set of motions at their Aug. 19 meeting, voting to advance development projects, infrastructure contracts and traffic-safety work.
The board adopted the amended agenda and approved minutes from Aug. 5 and several special meetings. Among the consent items the board authorized a one-year option extension for RATPDev to continue managing Oxford University Transit and removed a residency requirement for the transit manager in the contract language. The board also approved contract executions related to Anderson production wells, a task order for the Haley Well project and a professional-services agreement with Ecological Design Group to create a parks and trails master plan.
Planning and land-use votes included approval of the York Flats preliminary plat for Anchorage Road and authorization to extend utilities and approve a preliminary plat for Lafayette Landing off Mississippi Highway 7 South. The board also took action on zoning matters: it approved rezoning 10 acres owned by Snyder Development from suburban residential to neighborhood residential and voted to remove that 10-acre parcel from the Blackberry Hills planned unit development (PUD). Several other rezoning and PUD items were taken up as first readings.
Traffic and public-safety actions included approval of a temporary curb-barrier purchase for the West Jackson Avenue/Galleria Drive East intersection to reduce left turns at certain driveways and authorization for off-duty uniformed officers to help direct traffic for a new business. The mayor and aldermen also voted to close a portion of Landis Road (a closure, not abandonment) and directed staff to pursue appraisals if the board chooses to pursue acquisition.
The board approved the Oxford High School homecoming parade permit for Sept. 21 and voted to permit Sunday work dates for a private contractor. Several items were approved by unanimous voice vote; where roll-call tallies were not read into the record, outcomes were recorded as approved by the board.
What happens next: items that had first readings will return for second readings and public hearings as required; contracts and acquisitions will proceed to execution per the terms the board authorized.
