Okolona library seeks repairs, $50,000 grant and two security cameras

Library representatives told the council the children's area sits in an older, historic portion of the building that limits certain repairs and requires careful approaches to fixtures and finishes.

The library representative said the director applied for a T‑Mobile Hometown Grant and that if awarded the $50,000 would cover needed repairs and technology upgrades. "If we receive the grant, it'll be $50,000," the library representative said, and trustees are also actively seeking other grants to remediate mold and improve the facility.

Council then discussed installing two security cameras at the library: one to monitor the front approach and another to improve visibility of the corridor leading to the restrooms and the conference room. Library staff said cameras cost about $300–$400 each plus labor and that the system’s storage capacity will be checked; if the system must be expanded, staff will return with pricing.

Chair called for a vote to add the two cameras to the existing system so the library can better monitor the front entry and the hallway that previously had blind spots.
