Amityville trustees unanimously approve routine licenses, vendor payments and schedule public hearing on landscaping vehicle parking

The Village of Amityville Board of Trustees met March 23, 2026, and unanimously approved routine municipal business, including minutes, personnel appointments, licenses, vendor payments and budget adjustments.

Mayor Michael O'Neill called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and asked Amityville Police Department Chief Frank Caramanica to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Deputy Mayor Owen E. Brooks Jr. thanked residents for participating in the recent special village election and congratulated Trustee Adam Ansanelli on his election victory before outlining community events and deadlines, including the village's Arbor Day tree-planting on April 25 and a library-hosted medication take-back event on March 25.

In formal business the board approved the March 9, 2026 minutes. Trustee Roger Smith moved to approve and Deputy Mayor Brooks seconded; the vote was 4–0 in favor (Mayor Michael O'Neill, Deputy Mayor Owen E. Brooks Jr., Trustee Roger Smith, Trustee Robert Russo).

On municipal spending the board approved several vendor payments and budget items, including: - Proclaim Inc.: $3,858.20 for January ambulance deposits and Medicare claims and $4,673.08 for February ambulance deposits and Medicare claims (accounts recorded in the minutes). - Sourcepass Total, LLC: $4,434.90 (monthly billing) and $6,270.00 (annual software billing). - VHB Engineering & Surveying PC: $89,595.93 for survey and design work tied to the Jumpstart Grant (account A0-9950-700). - CSEA Employee Benefit Fund: $5,986.97 for monthly dental and vision. - NYS Employee Health Insurance Account: $265,798.90 for monthly health insurance benefits. - Jesco, Inc.: $3,906.50 for a rental truck to haul snow. - Sprague: $15,272.18 for fuel (3,201 gallons of 91 octane and 1,500 gallons of winterized diesel). All payments and budget modifications recorded in the minutes were approved by unanimous 4–0 votes.

The board also approved two Fire Department budget modifications: a reallocation of $8,395.97 from vehicle repair & maintenance to vehicle equipment and a $9,000.97 transfer from training to EMT overtime; both measures passed 4–0.

On property tax matters the board approved a settlement filed by Forchelli, Deegan & Terrana for SCTM#101/14/4/1-28 (Timber Ridge Townhouses), authorizing a $2,000 lump-sum refund and a reduction in aggregate assessed value of $261,200. The trustees also approved adding a newly created vacant parcel on Willis Avenue (SCTM #101-3-3-9.3) to the 2026/2027 final assessment roll.

The board called for a public hearing April 13, 2026, on Introductory Local Law No. 1 of 2026 to amend §172-29.1 of the Village Code to create a violation for improperly parked landscaping vehicles. The hearing will occur at the board's next scheduled meeting on April 13 at 7 p.m., which will also serve as the annual organizational meeting.
