Campbell outlined targeted reductions across departments intended to limit the increase. He said the Recreation Center payroll was trimmed, Buildings and Grounds reduced tool spending and adjusted a health-insurance line to account for employees who opt out of town coverage and receive a stipend, and the Highway Department held off on changing uniform purchases (not switching to button shirts). He also said the town reduced rental costs and drew down allocations for culvert work, stone, and tree maintenance.
Traci Joy, speaking for the library, said the library cut discretionary line items while keeping staff levels and reduced proposed merit increases from $6,000 to $4,000. Selectboard members asked questions and discussed the tradeoffs in various line items; no final vote on the FY27 budget was taken at the meeting.
The budget review will continue as staff refine numbers and respond to Selectboard questions. The Selectboard did not specify next procedural steps or a public hearing date during the recorded discussion.
