District staff propose moving weight equipment out of PCMHS library to adjacent rooms

District leaders presented a facilities plan for PCMHS that would keep the library intact and relocate weight equipment to existing school rooms instead. The superintendent said the district evaluated several options and concluded they would "not be moving forward with anything that would require substantial amount of work, which would be moving, the weight equipment into the library."

Instead, the recommendation was to use the current weight room and extend space into room C117 (former teacher room) for padded flooring and weight equipment, and to use room C114 for secure storage of out-of-season and unused football and athletic equipment. The superintendent described plans for flooring, storage units with programmable locks, ventilation/vent adjustments to reduce odors and a mat to reduce slipping hazards.

Officials said the change aims to minimize disruption to classroom schedules and to allow coaches better space for strategy and equipment staging during inclement weather. The superintendent noted that positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) are part of the middle-school plan and that moves should be reversible if enrollment or grade-configuration changes occur: "we have to keep whatever we do as able to be transitioned back into classrooms." Board members said they would solicit coaches' feedback and form committees to monitor the trial.
