Pendleton County Schools board approves resignations, hires, contracts and coaching appointments

The Pendleton County Schools Board approved a slate of personnel actions and contracts at its meeting, accepting two resignations effective this summer, authorizing position closings and postings, hiring several employees, and approving paid and volunteer coaching appointments.
The personnel section opened with the clerk reading two resignations: Vicky Hammer, substitute secretary, effective 07/02/2026, and Philip Combs, itinerant elementary counselor at Brandywine Elementary, effective 07/15/2026. Superintendent recommended approval, a board member moved and seconded, and the board approved the resignations by voice vote. "Motion passes," the Chair said after members responded "Aye."
The board then granted permission to close the two itinerant elementary counselor positions and approved posting four roles: two itinerant elementary counselor/social worker positions (Franklin and Brandywine), a physical therapy assistant (up to 12 hours per week) and an extracurricular IEP/SDI coordinator. The superintendent said the expanded posting will include social work duties, as had previously been done at the middle school.
Clerk read and the board approved a list of hires including an extracurricular before-and-after detention teacher at North Fork Elementary, head volleyball coaches for the middle-high school, classroom assistants, an itinerant autism aide, a school-based parent and community activities coordinator, and substitute secretaries and teachers. Board members questioned how extracurricular pay is calculated; in response, the superintendent explained the pay is ‘‘per hour’’ rather than a flat per-student amount.
The board approved contracts for Best Life Therapy (which provided physical and occupational therapy and sign-language interpreting this past school year), a School Building Authority project for Brandywine Elementary School and a continuing contract for Bethany Wetzel. The superintendent said the School Building Authority is contributing $1,000,000 and the county will contribute $446,504 toward updated HVAC systems and a new roof for Brandywine Elementary.
The board also approved an extensive list of nonpaid coaches and sport-specific volunteer coaches, and then approved paid coaching appointments across football, cross country, volleyball, cheer, golf, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball and track. The Chair noted that Katie was recusing herself from the paid-coaches vote; the board proceeded and approved the appointments.
All formal approvals recorded in the transcript were conducted by voice vote with members answering "Aye"; the audio record shows "Motion passes" following each vote. The board set no additional conditions in the transcript for the hires or contracts and did not provide a roll-call tally of individual votes.
The board announced its next regular meeting for Tuesday, August 4 at 05:00 in the same building and adjourned at 05:23.
