At its May 20, 2026 meeting, the Personnel Committee discussed two additional items: a recommendation to eliminate the municipal court and a request for temporary public-works assistance for library landscaping.
Committee members reviewed a proposal to eliminate the municipal court, citing ongoing operational inefficiencies, administrative burden and a financial deficit. The committee did not take a formal vote but expressed no opposition to advancing the recommendation to the City Council for further consideration.
On a separate item, the committee considered providing temporary public-works support for landscaping at the library. Members said they were open to assisting but that any service should be charged at market rate — not simply “at cost” — to reflect full labor, equipment wear and administrative impacts. Committee members also raised concerns about public-works capacity and prioritization of core city duties. The mayor agreed to follow up with the library representative and the matter will return for further consideration once additional information is available.
Both items will move forward as staff and the Council determine next steps; no binding policy changes were adopted at this meeting.
