Parks staff outline summer wrap-up, Meadowview design meeting and fall projects

Parks staff gave a series of operational updates at the Aug. 19 meeting, covering summer program wrap-ups, special events and several capital and maintenance projects.
Recreation staff (Mary) said Horeb Pool closes tomorrow and Buckner Pool this weekend, praised lifeguards and noted youth-sports activity including 26 softball teams and about 390 players. She highlighted adaptive-program efforts and a partnership with ACAP for adaptive pickleball opportunities. Special-events staff (Joanna) summarized recent and upcoming concerts (Frame Park Tribute Tuesday series, Foreigner on Sept. 10), Oktoberfest on Sept. 20–21 in Frame Park, Rivers Crossing beer gardens, and Operation Honor on Nov. 9 with a local North High School graduate as keynote speaker.
The director said staff are focused on budget preparation, and promoted a public information meeting on Meadowview Park’s pavilion and splash pad design scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., available in person and virtually. Staff noted the project is not yet approved and is contingent on funding; the meeting is intended to gather design input.
Maintenance staff (Melissa) reported Bethesda Playground removal is underway with public-works coordination and that removal of Waukesha Springs Playground began the same day. Upcoming work includes Priedeman ballfield backstop removal and new ADA pathway connections, and replacement of circa-1950s/1980s lighting at Buckner ball fields with programmable Busco lighting. Staff also described ongoing recruitment for ground supervisors and equipment/maintenance positions. The board offered no objections and adjourned.
