Culbertson council fixes 1933 tax levies to fund water bonds, municipal services and roads
Summary
In August 1933 the council passed three resolutions fixing 1933 levies: Resolution No. 67 set 29 mills for a sinking fund for refunded water bonds and 15 mills for funded debt; Resolution No. 68 fixed the general municipal levy at 20 mills (authorized by April election); Resolution No. 69 set a 5-mill road levy.
In early August 1933 the Culbertson Town Council adopted a package of tax-levy resolutions to meet municipal debt and operating needs.
Resolution No. 67 (introduced by Councilman N. M. Johnson and seconded by Geo A. Janes) fixed a tax of 29 mills on taxable property to create a sinking fund to retire the town’s 'Refunded Water Bonds' and fixed a separate 15-mill levy to retire the town’s 'Funded Debt' for 1933. The resolution text states the purpose of the 29-mill levy is specifically to retire refunded water bonds and their interest.
Resolution No. 68 (introduced and moved by the same members) fixed the annual assessment and tax levy for general municipal and administrative purposes at 20 mills for 1933; the minutes note the April 3 election had authorized increasing the levy from 15 to 20 mills. Resolution No. 69 fixed a tax of five mills for road purposes, to be paid into the town road fund and used for road work.
All three resolutions were recorded as passed and approved by Mayor L. W. Moen. The minutes do not record roll-call vote tallies for the resolutions themselves beyond stating they were adopted with the members present voting in favor.
